Andrew

Andrew is a principal economist and project leader at the International Livestock Research Institute based in Nairobi, Kenya, where he is taking the lead in developing new financial tools to help Africa’s small-holder farmers. His current portfolio deals largely with identifying strategies to insure cattle-owners against weather-related losses, which could greatly increase resilience for poor livestock-dependent households, particularly pastoral populations. Andrew’s work developing the Index-Based Livestock Insurance (ILBI) approach has won numerous awards and led him to being named the 2016 recipient the Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application at the World Food Prize.
