Thilmeeza is a former Deputy Ambassador to the UN from the Maldives. She is a lecturer of sustainability and global warming, and an environmentalist. Before serving as the DPR, she served as the Minister of State for Home Affairs – North Province and was among the team of young, enthusiastic members of the first democratically elected government in the country under President Mohamed Nasheed. She strongly advocates and is passionate that the only approach to development studies should be ‘sustainable development,’ encompassing social inclusion, economic empowerment, and the environment. Hussain has been interviewed multiple times by Public Radio International and National Public Radio, has addressed diverse UN audiences at international climate meetings, and has shared the stage with the former US Ambassador for Global Women’s Affairs.
